My last day as an IMC student…

…reminded me that 1) my future, the “real world” that I have been preparing for since I was a child is just a month away; 2) art and communications are just means to an end and not the goal itself; and lastly, 3) I love everybody who became part of my academic life.

Some may be wondering why I already experienced my last day in IMC. The semester is not yet over. I still need to attend 1 more subject twice a week and still need to answer all those math exercises. But since I cross-enrolled and I’m currently taking up accounting under the Management course, it doesn’t really count as IMC. And… This morning, at exactly 10:51 AM of September 4, 2007, beloved Mr. Jason de Villa (Communication Society professor under the Integrated Marketing Communications course), my last IMC professor, decided to give his “last lecture” for the class. He decided it would be best to just end early with the readings, lectures and quizzes to give a month’s time of preparation for our (grand) finals paper, which is due this October. ;p

I know I should be happy because… No more waking up early every Tuesday morning. No more riding with Marie and her morning high bloods whenever we hit the permanently traffic roads in Metro Manila. No more panic-filled rides to school whenever I leave the house a bit delayed than originally planned. No more meetings with crazy group-mates who endlessly discuss and argue over presentations. But, beside all of that newly gained convenience, I am not 100% celebratory about that supposedly festive moment, I can’t help but be filled with mixed emotions of worry, sadness, guilt and panic. Yes, only one more paper to think about, but I am worried that this is my last paper for the course and that I might not be able to produce something really valuable. I am saddened by the fact that my last semester with the School of Communications ended all too anti-climactically. I also felt guilty because I realized that this is the last semester I’d be staying in college and I still wasn’t able to deliver the best that I have to offer, c/o the little thing called slacking off. And lastly, I felt panicky, the kind that seems as if I am about to experience palpitations. This is from fact that after that final paper for CommSoc, I must think about my future or my “real life” as many would call it.

Good thing that Sir Jason has this perfect sense of timing. Just when I am ready to turn on my emo mode or “emode,” he made me calm down a bit (a bit only because I am still in panic mode) and re-think my values, beliefs and goals in life. He reminded the class that people communicate because, as we endlessly quote Plato, “man is naturally a social being” and that we cannot survive in this world without interacting with our fellow human beings. In addition, communication is but a means of sending a message. Art is just the same thing. Photography should not be hollow with meaning and always taken as a visual end. The last lecture reminded me why I love taking photographs. I was magically transported to the time when I first tried to capture a photograph without asking my subjects to say “cheese.” I am reminded that I love clicking the camera because I do not only want to keep a record of time capsules, but rather a proof of a priceless moment of existence. I love photography more than other because it is my means of sending a message. I love taking photos because usually I love the subjects in it, whether they are people, places or objects. I love photography because most of the time, they remind me of things to be thankful for. I love the arts because it reminds me what I have learned from the beautiful people in my life.

And for that… I offer this blog as my gratitude to everybody…Thank you to all who has “communed” with me!

Natural High

Yep… yesterday, I received another one of these...
Every semester, I always get chosen for random drug testing.

WHY???
DO I ALWAYS REALLY LOOK LIKE I'M HIGH???

Haaayyyy...

Oh well, at least natural high is better than chemical high, right? And maybe rather than ranting, i should be thankful for yet another opportunity to proove that there are still people in this modern world who can really be naturally high.

Cabin Fever

Have you ever had that certain feeling when you've stayed too long in one place and with the same set of people, that you just feel so restless and you want to go as far away possible or at least spend time with different people? Well, due to Egay (the storm) & Mr. Ninoy (the hero), there were no classes for almost a week now. I should've been celebrating and happy for the free time and rest that I'm getting, plus the really cool weather. Instead, rather than acting all appreciative like my other friends, I experienced a major case of CABIN FEVER!

According to our best friend, Wikipedia.com, CABIN FEVER is a condition that produces restlessness and irritability caused from being in a confined space. The actual word is a slang term for a claustrophobic reaction that takes place when a party is isolated and/or shut in together for an extended period of time.

Last Friday, i was really itching to get out of the house. I couldn't accept the fact that I'd been home for 3 days straight and would continue to be stuck with the same set of people until Monday. So, despite this...

and this...

...nothing could stop me.

I bolted out of the province called Paranaque. Invited all my friends for a little get together in Metrowalk. And, cured myself off of the fever.

“Nabasa ko blog mo, katawa ka magsulat. Ikaw yun di ba? Bakit hindi updated?” - Starbux newly found friend (from IMC-ahhh)

- Stalker (from an anonymous place)

Still on Vacation!!!

My family has this tradition of going out of town before classes start.
Last year we went to Bangkok, Thailand.
And here is my favorite photo from that trip...
(Title: Lilac)

For this year, we settle for our favorite getaway... Baguio! We will be there from June8(today) to June11(mon). This is to save up some money for our big trip to Canada and the States next August because one of my closest cousins is getting married and grandparents are demanding us to visit them. Hmmm... Wonder what could be my favorite photo this year? I'm really excited!

(Although, it's also a bit sad because I invited my IMC classmates and some friends to join us in our stay but none could make it. For the past years, my theater friends from ROC and cousins were always tagging along. But this year, it's just us. Sigh.)

Reunited with my Camera

Oh my dearest boyfriend Canon S3IS, why have you abandoned me for so long? I have been taking pictures with your old friend Canon S45. Elber says, it is not the camera who takes the pictures but the person holding it. I guess, since you are but a tool, even without you I CAN take nice shots. But, it was still difficult not having you. Frustrations flooded me especially when I was itching to take indoor shots or sports photos. Or when I am already losing patience since I do not have a faster way of uploading photos from CF cards and would rather use an SD card. But, past is past! We are reunited once more, that is what's important! I promise to take care of you and no longer keep you anywhere near the reach of my 3 year old destruction team, aka my niece named Arnie.

NOTE: Wala po sanang jellyace! I am talking to my camera who, i mean which, finally after 2 months of repair has finally returned into my longing arms/humble abode.

PS: Thank you dad for the unending patience and understanding, and for all the money you spend supporting your daughter's passion. Thank you my dearest friends for all the support and patience. And for you, Mr. Other Anonymous (I know you'd be reading this at work) thank you for these delicious things called inspiration, patience, support, honesty and slow walks that you continuously serve in my life. Without all you guys, I would never even dare talk to my camera and treat it with any bit of importance. You all showed me what is delicious in life, and in return I will try to share to others what I learned from all of you through my art.

Why I Love Sitemeter

Super love ko talaga SiteMeter! Ang fun na metrics! Kasi…You get to see how people get to your website, like, from what links referred people to your site or what google words they searched first before they click to yours.

And guess what!

Somebody searched google for “pekpek shorts pic.” Because of my “Dear Lyka” entry, I was there in the search results. Yes and there I was on the first page! Hahahaha

Dito ko rin nakita na when you search for “mga sawi sa pagibig,” ako ang first na lalabas! As in top ng first page! Wahahaha! Dahil yun sa "Para Sa Mga Sawi..." entry ko. But that is about chocolates! Hahaha! Crazy talaga!

As for “Razon’s Halo-halo,” nasa second page lang ang "Isang Rason sa Pag-ngiti: RAZON'S HALO-HALO" ko. Andami rin kasing nag-blog about it eh! Nice!

Try checking out your Site Metrics using SiteMeter! Sobra laughtrip talaga! Mine is working just fine for me! As in, I can’t stop laughing! I’m flattered rin naman! Pero this is hilarious talaga! Wahahaha!

Arnie, Year 3

Today is my ever makulit na pamangkin, Ms. Arnie Pauline Taguines' birthday!
ASTIG!

(This photo was taken during her 2nd bday party last year.)

Ito rin ang regalo ko sa kanya in a photo frame kasi wa ako money! Hehehe!
Pede rin ako mag-paint if sipagin ako.
If... If sipagin ako! =)

Canon Image Nation

Wow! I'm Canon-ed!

The print ads and banners for the Canon Image Nation Summer '07 (at SM malls nationwide) have been released. I was informed by my cousin, Chin that the Canon booth is currently in SM Mega Mall, located at the Atrium, and will be there until June 3. The photo to the left is just one of at least 5 banners, poster catalogues, and other collaterals that Canon released for their campaign this year.

I am showing you this one, not only because I love Canon cameras but also because I have a delicious photo somewhere in there. I submitted a bunch of photos to Canon for this campaign and they actually used more of my photos in another mosaic, the one which looked like the Philippine Map. I haven’t seen the banners yet, but I think they used the photo below. I'm just not sure yet if there are more photos in there.

Waaahhh! Lord, is this a sign?

Slaving for an SLR or a Lomo

For those who are wondering, what the heck am I doing awake at 4am every morning, I am currently (1) doing Layout rakets for my mom's friends/clients, (2) conceptualizing a story for a children's storybook and trying to learn how to paint and (3) joining other photography rakets/contests... WHY??? Because, I have no allowance during summer and summer is a pretty bad time to discover your passion.

Yes! Finally Dad, i hope you can read this! Your daughter finally discovered what she really loves. The long trial and error process of enrolling me to Yamaha, art classes and other writing or acting workshops is finally over. I've finally realized that besides having an interest with Advertising (which will be my job soon, do not worry, my mentor is already summoning me into her lair), I have a passion for this delicious thing called Photography. (Mas gusto ko kasi atang sabihin kay San Pedro na inalay ko buhay ko sa pag-p-praise kay Lord through arts and showing people what is beautiful and delicious, kesa sa sabihin na nagbenta ako ng sabon. Hehe! Hmmmm...)

It's such a relief to finally shout to the world what is that thing that lies inside your heart. But at the same time, it's scary because you are expected to commit to one.

Feeble Attempt

this is my feeble attempt at watercolor pencil painting!
parang drawing ng 5 years old eh noh! hahahaha!
but, yun! i think this is delicious enough to be posted in this blog!
took me about 3 hours to finish my first HEARTWORK...
using my newly bought set of "stress reliever"
(aka UNI fine pens, faber-castell watercolor pencils, sketchbook & brushes)

*cough cough sniff sniff*

Huhuhu!
Good thing mom works at home 'cause kapampangans (except me) can cook really nice dishes! And when I'm sick, she cooks extra special pancit!
Anyway, 'cause I can't take photos and there's nothing to write about
(or the things I wanna write about are too long
and I can't stay too long in front of the monitor...)
I'm just going to post a photo taken not too long ago
and a bit related to my health ramblings.

THIS IS A PIC OF WHAT I SORTA ATE FOR THE PAST FEW DAYS...
Well, my mom was not the one who cooked this.

But someone myty meaty talented in visual & culinary arts (ay pati sa music since kumakanta rin siya) cooked this for me (raw)!
("masarap ito" in Kapampangan)

oh well, yun lamang folks!

Meet Arthur

This is the latest addition to our crazy family... a 7 month old, male Chihuahua puppydog.

Arnie named him Arthur because we just finished watching "Arthur and the Invisibles" last night. And, since that cute character is such a tiny hero in that movie, I have a pretty good feeling with our own little Arthur.

(Ain't he cute? After just an hour, he already smiles like the rest of the family! Haha)

Now THAT's Trapo Clutter!

Wow! Now this is Advertising Clutter!!! Look at that! How would you even know who to vote with that much ads in one vacant lot?

This is the one in front of Jollibee, along Doña Soledad (Parañaque). There are actually 3 of those in that one long street. Poor vacant lots, violated from their purity. From what used to be clean and neatly trimmed grasses, is now inhabited by this jungle of political ads.

And if you think that's enough...
After just one turn, the next street is yet again full of these political ads. And it's even longer! Talk about a full campaign making sure everything gets covered!
It's covered all right!

What I'm fighting for is my freedom for a beautiful summer sky and warm summer breeze! Ugh! I can't even enjoy summer here with all these ugliness! I wish Elections would end soon and that it would be a successful one!

PS: Hayyy... My dearest fellowmen, when will we learn? Don't you love our beautiful country? Why do you always sacrifice your principles for a couple of "Ninoy's" from these guys? And still endlessly complain about them in rallies. Act now or sacrifice another ugly summer later on. I wish there will be a limit or ban to all this political ads. Whomever has power, please make regulations soon. I wish more people can do ads like the one Nation Paint did. The one where the wall was talking to the one putting on political ads. I really love that. As for me, I am very excited to vote for the first time. I might as well practice my right after falling in line for 10 straight hours last December for Registration of Voters. And, as soon as I get a land a job in one of those agencies, I will try my best to lessen the ugliness! Promise!

Dear Lyka...

Mejo big change (mejo pero big eh noh, laboness) for me since she is my PARTNER IN CRIME...

anyway... this is for her at sa lahat ng nakakakilala sa kanya...

DEAR LYKA (my version of Sugarfree's Dear Kuya)
Dear Lykaaaaahhhhh, kumusta ka na dyan?
Anong balita, marami bang boylets dyan?

[chorus]
Nasan ka man ngayon,
ano mang oras naika’y may kailangan,

Miss mo bang magtagalog? Lyka pag may kumausap sayo

Lykaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh

[chorus uli na may iba-ibang dagdag eh, katamad isa-isahin]

Isang Rason sa Pag-ngiti: RAZON'S HALO-HALO

Summer ain't summer until you've indulged yourself with Razon's Halo-halo!

P65.00 has never been this fulfilling!!! Unlike the usual Chowking-style, as in punuin-mo-ng-todo-todo-hanggang-sa-hindi-mo-na-maintidihan-kung-anong-sangkap-ang-kinakain-mo, Razon's Halo-Halo consists of only (i think) 3 ingredients: saba, leche flan & macapuno. Also, the texture of their ice is different. Hindi namumuo at madaling ihalo. Plus, the milk they use is so delicious, for some reason it's creamier.

Nasa plastic cup! Wenk!

Labor of Love on Labor Day

While most Filipinos were either making their contribution to the country by rallying in the streets or making a new record for the top grosser during the first day of showing for Spiderman3. I made a record of my own last May 1, 2007. What you can see here folks is the photo of my first ever home made pizza. This was done (while dancing to the lovely tunes provided by Ms. Nelly Furtado) under the control and proffesional supervision of someone gifted in the art of cooking and must not be tried at home if you are like me, a freaking kapampangan who can't cook! Haha!

Top 5 Things I Missed Last Sunday... But It Was Worth It (i think)

(This is the first post where I'll be using photos which I didn't shoot. You'll see the reason why as you read along the article.)

Awww.. gosh! I hate the Internet! You get to see everything here. The places to go to, movies to watch, blogs to read, music to listen to and schedules of different kinds of events. I'm supposed to be loving that free flowing exchange of information, but as you can see, I am writing in English because it sucks to be informed after they are all finished and you only get to "experience" them in pictures or in articles here in the internet and not the real thing.

Well, as to why i missed these events... Let's just say i met someone. It's nothing really. We spent the whole day together, chatting, laughing and just making silly comments about silly stuff. Too early to tell, but whatever it was, definitely a blast. Oh gosh! I hope he never sees this or else i'm dead!

As for the list, Here are the...

TOP 5 THINGS I MISSED LAST SUNDAY, APRIL 22,'07:
1. World Light Expo 2007

- Why couldn't I have learned about this a month sooner? Why? I am just baffled! Seriously! I was actually inviting some friends to go to SM Mall of Asia to hang out there just because I have been there only once. If I knew that there is something like this in that area, I would have persuaded them easier! And I only get to know about it after the last day, when it was actually here for quite a long time (February 23 - April 22, 2007).

source of screenshot: http://www.worldlightexpo.com/
source of lightshow and fountain photo with the Phil. Map: http://anton.blogs.com/awesome/2007/02/world_light_exp.html

2. Free film showing of "Inconvenient Truth" at SM Cinemas
-Just when I'm finally decided to get serious about my Polar Bear speech (which I know, more and more people are getting annoyed listening to) and advocacy for the environment, I suddenly found out that my inspiration for this advocacy was shown for free in different cinemas!

3. Photographers guesting in RockEd at NU107
- Ah geez! This one has got to hurt the most. I was really looking forward to listening to this one. I even informed some of my friends about it. And yet, when i was in the car back home to P'que. I completely forgot about it. Why? Oh Why?

Photo by Jay Capati. To see more of what I (and some of you guys) missed, here is a summary of what happened during the show and what they talked about in the RockEd Radio's Official Blogsite.

4. Supposedly Movie night / Heroes marathon with High School Barkada
-Planned by Keno (venue sponsor: bahay nila), Raul (DVD collection sponsor), and I (Miss Never-Say-Die Events Planner of barkada trippings) because people are already missing each other (so this will serve as a reunion actually). And, we want to shift from scary movie marathons to TV series marathons. But, I only got to remember about the plan when I received Keno's YM Offline Message asking me if we are still pushing through with the plan.

5. Arnie was rushed to Makati Med
-My niece was rushed to the hospital due to severe stomach ache that she has been complaining about for days and got worse last saturday evening. It was just sad that i was not there for her, especially since that kid was so brave while she was there. She even bragged to her friends this afternoon how cool it was in the hospital when the doctors "took a picture of her stomach," a.k.a. X-Ray.(Well, at least this one, i was informed throught text message and not the internet. I still hate not being there, though.)

Kaya since may kakilala akong nagpa-alam magpakasal kagabi...

Bwahahaha!

Signs of Summer

It's not summer unless I've...
played badminton in the streets w/ my neighbors
and drowned myself w/ softdrinks!

(Take note: This was the hottest day of summer...yet! Max temperature was at 35.8°C.)

Let THEM in again...

I never really realized how far i've shoved Them away in my life until i saw this... a picture of Jesus Christ and Mama Mary as if looking at me from outside the window, on a Sunday afternoon.
(anong realizations ba to??? kakaiba after magkasakit! haha!)

At napag-isipan kong... Hmmm...

At mas mahilig talaga mag-picture. Kaya yun, i'll try my best to share life's sweet blessings through this photo blog! Pwedeng mag-feature ng best photo I've taken for the day. At, promise ko talaga to try my best to update it as often as possible! (hehehe)

UAPAK!!!

UAPak!!!
